MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) uses a strong magnet and radio waves — not X-rays — to produce detailed pictures of the brain, spinal cord, joints, muscles and abdominal organs. At Kansal Diagnostic Centre on Batala Road, Amritsar, every MRI is planned and reported by a qualified radiologist.

- Neuro: MRI brain, epilepsy protocol, stroke (DWI), pituitary, orbits, IAM / internal auditory canal, MR angiography & venography
- Spine: cervical, dorsal, lumbar and whole-spine screening, MR myelography

When is an MRI advised?

How to prepare
- Bring your doctor’s prescription and any previous scans or reports.
- Tell us about a pacemaker, cochlear implant, metal clips, aneurysm clips, metal fragments in the eye, or pregnancy before your appointment.
- Remove jewellery, watches, hair pins, cards and phones before entering the scan room.
- For abdomen and MRCP studies, fasting of a few hours is usually needed — our team will tell you when you book.
- If you feel anxious in closed spaces, let us know in advance.
During the scan
You lie still on a padded table while the machine takes pictures; it makes loud knocking sounds, so ear protection is provided. Most studies take 15–40 minutes. Some scans need a contrast injection, which is given only after checking kidney function where required.
Frequently asked questions about MRI Scan
Is MRI safe?
MRI does not use ionising radiation. It is safe for most people, but metal implants such as pacemakers must be checked by our team before the scan.
How long does an MRI take?
Most MRI scans take between 15 and 40 minutes depending on the body part and whether contrast is needed.
When will I get my MRI report?
Reports are usually ready the same day. Urgent cases are reported on priority, and images can be shared with your doctor digitally.
Do I need a doctor's prescription for MRI?
Yes, please bring a prescription from your treating doctor along with any previous reports or films.
